Rehearsal Report, 10.09.2014

Christmas Carolers,

First blocking down! Woop-woop! There are some person specific notes in this blog, but the first half applies to all of you, so please read through even if you were not called.

ACTING NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR: Our director is looking for you to truly be in the moment, which means you really have to know your script, know your character and the decisions they're making. Here is some direction that is relevant to everyone!

- Find the overarching goal of your character within a scene, a passage, and a sentence.
- Find out what your character wants, and use VERBS to describe/drive those wants: never play a quality.
- If a verb isn't moving your character's goal further, upgrade your verb!
- Do not allow yourself to have only one acting verb/don't 'sit' on your verbs within a scene: keep your character active in the scene, and reacting to the other actors.
- Know your OPERATIVE WORDS in your lines, and react to your partner/other actor's operative words in the scene. This is also known as 'Listen THEN Respond'.
- The drama within a scene is in the eye contact between two actor's, and their connection; do not disconect from your partner.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER/ACTOR NOTES:

Philpot and Twice/Adrian C. and Sam B.:
-Always be at a diagonal when on stage: No standing in lines! We are creating a scene with depth.
-Heighten your language by finding your verbs/intentions within your lines in reaction to the other chracters.(See above)

Bob Crachit/Carl B.:
-Practice parts of yourself within Bob Crachit, and find a naturalness with him.
-Do not play the quality of 'weakness' within him. He is strong, and upstanding, especially in his chosing to always being gentile and understanding.

Fred/Matt E.:
-Practice the progression and the elevating passion in your 'speech'/monologue, P.10.
-Find out how old he is, and how that plays into time period.
-Keep in mind period clothing restrictions in your movements.

Scrooge/J B.:
-Heighten your language by finding your verbs/intentions within your lines in reaction to the other chracters.(See above)
-We want to see how frustrated he is that no one is listening on this day. There needs to be a steady progression from mild irritation with Phil./T., to the heartbreak and anger that comes from Fred's visit, to the absolute outburst that follows with Percy.
